One year after the collapse

David Ortiz has been a major run producer but this team needs much more production from everyone else if they think they can compete next year.

2011- The Red Sox were entering the last game of the regular season with a chance to make up for their historically bad September if they could only beat the Baltimore Orioles. As it turns out, it was one of the most gut-wrenching nights of my life. Of course the Orioles came back to win in extra innings, but that wasn't the worst part. As it turns out Tampa Bay, who was chasing the Red Sox for the last playoff spot, was losing 7-0 to the Yankees late in the game. Then the impossible happened. The Rays then made a furious comeback and Evan Longoria hit a walk off home run to send the Rays into the AL Playoffs, and send the reeling Red Sox home. The Sox had successfully completed the biggest collapse in the history of baseball as they had blown a 9 game September lead in the Wild Card Race. The team finished the month of September with a 7-20 record.
2012 - The Red Sox enter their last game of the regular season tonight against the Yankees, trailing in the Wild Card Race by 24 games. Boy what a difference a year makes huh? I fully expect the Sox to lose tonight as they have shown me during the past 2 months that the majority of the players just don't give a shit and have packed it in. With a loss tonight the Red Sox September and October record would fall to 7-21. Their manager Bobby Valentine doesn't seem to care either. I was listening to his interview on WEEI today and Bobby was asked whether his coaches supported him through this tough season. He simply answered "No" and continued to explain that he thought they undermined him this season and that he wished he had done several things differently this year. Bobby V sounded like a man who was defeated and just ready to go  home. Well Bobby, you can go home after tonight's game and you can stay there as long as you want because don't think you'll be welcomed back to 4 Yawkey Way in Boston anytime soon. It is expected that tonight will be Valentine's final as Red Sox manager and it couldn't come soon enough. He should have been fired in August but instead the Red Sox management made these last two months painfully hard to deal with as they kept Bobby V at the helm and the team has continued to lose. For a complete breakdown about how bad this season has sucked click here.

I consider myself to be one of the biggest Red Sox fans around, but even I cannot watch this shit that they are putting out there on the field. I just can't bring myself to watch AAA players match up against CC Sabathia and see they fail miserably. Just take a look at the lineup the used against the Yankees on Monday Night vs Sabathia.

Recently the Red Sox line up has looked more like the AAA team in Pawtucket then an MLB lineup.

That's right, only 2 players (Salty and Ross) from the opening day lineup. The rest of those guys have no business being on an MLB roster. Not one guy with a batting average over .286. That's a joke. It's unfair to the players and its unfair for the fans. They should have fired Bobby V long ago and at least tried to make a run at the Wild Card while they still had a chance. But they decided not to make the change and here we are, currently on a 7 game losing streak and with a record of 69-92. Chances are pretty good that this team won't even reach the 70 win mark, making this the worst season the Red Sox have had since 1966. Let's just hope history repeats itself next year as in 1967. That year the "Impossible Dream" Team reached the World Series after finishing in dead last in 1966. I just can't find it in me to predict the same thing because this team is so dysfunctional and has so many holes, I think it will take years to repair this team. Let's just hope Bobby V gets fired ASAP and we can then try and steal John Farrell from Toronto.
