One year after the collapse

2011- The Red Sox were entering the last game of the regular season with a chance to make up for their historically bad September if they could only beat the Baltimore Orioles. As it turns out, it was one of the most gut-wrenching nights of my life. Of course the Orioles came back to win in extra innings, but that wasn't the worst part. As it turns out Tampa Bay, who was chasing the Red Sox for the last playoff spot, was losing 7-0 to the Yankees late in the game. Then the impossible happened. The Rays then made a furious comeback and Evan Longoria hit a walk off home run to send the Rays into the AL Playoffs, and send the reeling Red Sox home. The Sox had successfully completed the biggest collapse in the history of baseball as they had blown a 9 game September lead in the Wild Card Race. The team finished the month of September with a 7-20 record.

Week 5 Preview: Patriots vs. Broncos aka Brady vs Manning

Alright I know it’s only Wednesday but I’m so pumped for this game on Sunday against the Broncos that I had to write the pregame analysis now. Just watching the way the Pat’s offense moved up and down the field in the 2^nd half on Sunday was beautiful. Brady has started to look very comfortable with Brandon Lloyd, especially on those back shoulder routes near the sidelines. That’s the type of play it usually takes years to master between a QB and a wide out and these two have made it look effortless thus far after only 4 games together. It’s funny because Brady and Lloyd remind me of the way Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison worked together for many years in Indy. Brady seems to know where Lloyd will be at all times and has the confidence in him to make a catch in big time situations. I only see them getting better as the year goes on. Wes Welker, who leads the team in receptions and receiving yards, has played tremendous the last 3 weeks. He has carried the offense at times and always seems to be open, especially when the Pats need a clutch 3^rd down conversion.  Gronk hasn’t been thrown to as much so far this season as he did last year but that is to be expected with the addition of Lloyd and the new-found rushing attack. He is still, along with Welker, one of Brady’s go to guys, especially in the red zone. The running game made a huge impact in Sunday’s game as Stevan Ridley and Brandon Bolden both passed the 100 yard marks.  I don’t expect that type of performance this week as the Denver defense is only allowing 87.5 yards a game, but I still think just having the threat of a decent rushing attack is enough to relieve the pressure off of Brady to win every game with his arm.

Patriots 52 - Bills 28

Now thattt is what I'm fucking talking about. That's the offense we've been waiting for weeks to see. Sure the first half was disgusting and a total mess. But that second half...wow. I have never in my life seen a team look so disorganized on offense for the first half of a game and look so beautifully perfect in the second half. It really looked like they just did not give a shit in the first half. 

It's kind of like when you let your little brother score on you just to make him feel good. Like you obviously know you could put up triple digits against him if you really cared but you would never do it because he'd cry and you'd get yelled at by your mother and you'd end up feeling like an asshole. Well, unfortunately for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, mommy wasn't home to save you and big brother got fucking pissed off because you started acting like a punk and you thought you were a whole lot better then you really are. The Bills should just be thankful they had their 33 minutes and 52 seconds of glory when they took a 21-7 lead because that's where their fun ended. And boy did it end fast. Over the last 26 minutes and 8 seconds of the game the Patriots scored 45 points to the Bills 7. They scored 35 points in a row! While only 12 minutes ran off the clock! Who does that in the NFL? This isn't like LSU playing URI in college football where scoring 5 touchdowns in only 12 minutes wouldn't be so shocking. This is the greatest football league in the world and pro defenses just don't allow that to happen.  The Patriots totally destroyed Buffalo's hope and dreams within one half of football.
