NHL Lockout

Alright so this is my first time writing for RealSports247, I’ll give you a brief introduction to the author. My name is Brandon (yes, the same guy who had his fantasy team compared by Kyle and yes, he is in the playoffs while I’m on the outside looking in), anyway I’ve been friends with Kyle since high school. That’s about all any of you really need to know and even that might be too much of an explanation because really at the end of the day whoever reads this doesn’t give a fuck.


The NHL has not gotten any recognition whatsoever. The stance people take on the NHL or hockey in general is; 1. They’re diehard fans 2. They acknowledge it as a sport and really only watch it if it’s the playoffs 3. People who don’t acknowledge the sport and would rather have bamboo shoots stuck up their fingernails before they watch a game. Most of the people I’m friends with fall into category three and judging by ESPN’s coverage of the lockout so would the rest of the country. You don’t need to be a fucking genius to figure out nobody cares about the NHL, all you really need to do is compare lockout coverage on ESPN or any other network for that matter. NFL lockout, people cared more about whether or not the NFL would start on time than they care about the Fiscal Cliff. I’d be willing to bet people who read this don’t even know what the Fiscal Cliff is, but that doesn’t matter. NBA lockout, I couldn’t turn on ESPN without seeing Chris Broussard on there looking like a cracked out homeless man. Moral of the story is nobody really gives a fuck.

The NHL has been locked out for 80 days and has cancelled games through December 14th. This by the way for all you historians out there is 2nd lockout in 8 years. The NHL has cancelled more games in 8 years then the NFL, NBA and MLB in their entire history. I’m not going to sit here and breakdown core economics of each proposal, for one most of it I don’t understand and secondly its fucking pointless. The NHL owners don’t care about the players or fans and the players don’t care all that much for the owners or the fans. And as fans we’re so fucking stupid that even if it does come back and they salvage a season we’ll be lining up for tickets, purchasing NHL center ice and buying jerseys. There are no bigger suckers in the world than NHL fans because as much bitching as we do God knows we’ll be the first in line to watch it.

So the lockout will end, my guess is Friday 12/7, but that is of course things don’t go completely nuclear between now and then. Doesn’t matter anyway if a deal is completed because in 10 years be sitting here saying the same fucking thing.
